A 911 address is critical for fire department, rescue squad, and law enforcement officers to respond in case of an emergency. This address is often used by residents for receiving mail and package deliveries and for providing directions to one’s house. Every house, business, industry, religious building, school, etc. in Wythe County has a 911 address. In order for the 911 address system to operate effectively, there must be road signs at intersections throughout Wythe County and 911 address numbers must be visible on houses.

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors requests your assistance in identifying damaged or missing 911 road signs throughout the county. Each intersection in Wythe County should have a road sign. As these signs are critical for the safety and welfare of Wythe County citizens, please contact the Sheriff’s Office if you see or have knowledge of anyone vandalizing or stealing road signs.

In addition, the Enhanced 911 Emergency Telephone Ordinance requires that each owner display the 911 number assigned to the building. If the number on the building is not visible from the road, it must also be posted at the entrance to the property such as on a post or mailbox.
