WYTHEVILLE, Va. – Delores Poston has worked with numbers “all her life.”

Poston plans to retire on April 30, 2018 after 20 years of service to Wythe County. She currently works as an accounting clerk.

“I’ve always done accounting,” Poston said. “I can remember numbers better than I can remember people’s names.”

Poston said she started out in the accounts payable office.

“I started out as accounts payable, but I call myself accounting because you do a lot more than just accounts payable,” Poston said. “I’ve been backup for payroll. I’ve been backup for the finance director. I have taken care of the fuel cards and the credit cards. I think of myself as being multi-faceted. Back in the old days, I was backup for the administrative assistant.”

Poston said it feels “great” to be retiring.

“I’ve never taken off during the summer because that’s our busy time during work,” Poston said. “I look forward to doing things around the house and doing things outside.”

Delores Poston was recently recognized at the Wythe County Board of Supervisors meeting with a resolution.

“It was very nice,” Poston said. “It was very nice that all my fellow workers came in there to be with me while I was recognized. I guess you don’t think being here that long is a big deal because time flies. I guess you just don’t realize that you have been here for 20 years. It’s just part of your life. It’s nice to be recognized for it.”
