Wythe County declared a State of Emergency on March 18, 2020 in response to this pandemic. Wythe County leadership knew that the impact to our community would be long-term and we would need resource throughout. Between the health risk involved with the disease its self as well as the economic risk from job lost and community shut downs, Wythe County would feel this and for sometime to come. Wythe County has been working to support the Mount Rogers Health District, Wythe County Community Hospital, and local Emergency Medical Services in the fight against COVID-19.

COVID-19 does not respect a person’s status (social, economic, etc.) and will affect whosoever comes in contact with it. This is why it is so important to follow the guidance by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). All models that are available show that the mitigation of social distancing is helping to reduce the numbers. If we continue with our social distancing, have good hygiene, wear a mask (if needed) and staying home, if possible, we can reduce the impact on our hospitals and first-responders. Wythe County’s numbers will rise, but we can help reduce that if we follow the guidance of our elected officials.
