Rules & Regulations




1.    Participants must be in the third (3rd) through sixth (6th) grades and have participated in regular season games.

2.    Junior Varsity and Varsity squads will be judged separate from each other.

3.    Cheerleading props are limited to three (3) per event.  Pom Poms and megaphones are not considered props.

4.    Spotters are required for shoulder high gymnastic moves, pyramids, etc.

5.    The order of teams presentations/events will be registered with the judges half hour prior to the competition.

6.    A maximum of eight (8) minutes from the start of the first activity to the end of the final performance will be allowed per squad.  Anytime over the eight (8) minutes will be deducted at one (1) point per ten (10) seconds interval – i.e., 0-10 seconds = one (1) point, 11-20 seconds = two (2) points, etc.

7.    Definitions of competition events as follows:
Cheer – A particular routine generally performed only one (1) time – not  repetitions.
Chant – Repetitions – crowd motivator may be rhythmical.
Dance – Dance/aerobic steps etc, choreographed to music.
(Dance is not to be broken up in sessions during competition!)

8.    Pyramids or gymnastic moves may be included in any or all events.

2011

ELIGIBILITY

Junior Varsity
:    3rd Graders.
4th Graders – Cannot turn eleven (11) years of age prior to October 1, 2011.  The participant cannot have been retained in grade more than one (1) year.

Varsity:        5th Graders.
6th Graders – Cannot turn thirteen (13) years of age prior to October 1, 2011.  The participant cannot have been in grade more than one (1) year.

REGULATIONS

1.    Cheerleading is open to all youth in third (3rd) through sixth (6th) grades.

2.    All rosters, waiver forms, and birth certificates must be signed by a Parent or Legal Guardian before the participant may practice or participate in a game.

3.    ALL ROSTERS, WAIVER FORMS, and BIRTH CERTIFICATES are due in the Department office NO LATER than 3PM on August 13, 2010.  TEAMS NOT TURNING IN ROSTERS, WAIVER FORMS, and BIRTH CERTICIATES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE ON GAME DAY and WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE 2011 CHEERLEADING COMPETITION.

4.    Any child who does not attend school the day of a practice or game will not be allowed to participate in the activity that day unless excused by
the Parent or Legal Guardian.

5.    Any child suspended from school grounds will not be allowed to participate until the suspension is over.

6.    Participants are asked to attend ALL practices in order for the participant to learn all cheers and routines for games and competition.

7.    During games, team members are to be with their squad at the designated area.  Participants are not permitted to wander around the field or stands during the game.

8.    Cheers with vulgar statements or actions are NOT allowed.  Cheers are to be of a positive nature and not derogatory of other players or teams.

9.    All participants in cheerleading must conduct themselves in a well behaved manner.  Any profanity, unsportsmanlike conduct toward any other player, sponsor or official will result in suspension.

10.    The Junior Varsity Squad is limited to waist high pyramids.  The Varsity Squad is limited to shoulder high pyramids; however, a shoulder high
pyramid or prep can be used to extend/lift a cheerleader above the head.  This includes basket tossing and cradling during cheers or competition.  Please note that proper safety needs to be utilized when doing stunts, lifts, basket tosses, and cradles.  Adult supervision and spotting needs to be used at all times.

11.     Practice is limited to four (4) days per calendar week, one session per day, two (2) hours per session prior to the first game.  After games
begin, practice will be limited to three (3) days per calendar week, one session per day, two (2) hours per session.  Practices may begin August 1, 2009.

12.    No more than three (3) Coaches per team.
