25th Anniversary of New River Trail (May 5, 10a-5p). Free parking, 25% off all merchandise, horse, canoe, kayak, float tubes, and bike rentals. Free hotdogs, chips and drinks to the 1st 200 visitors. Fishing Derby (May 19, 9a-1p), open to children ages 5-16 years of age. Twelve and under must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes will be given out. Fishing Poles, tackle, bait will be provided, but children are welcome to bring their own fishing pole. FREE at Trout Pond.

Rural Retreat Lake Festival and Fireworks (July 4, 3p-festivities start, 10p-fireworks). Festivities include live bands, face painting, children’s games and crafts, numerous vendors set up, swimming at pool, food sales, and much more... Fireworks begin at 10pm.
Hawaiian Pool Day at RR Lake Swimming Pool (June 16, 4p). Free hotdogs, chips, and drink. Music, games, and prize give-aways.
Nature Camp (July 16-20th, 8a-5:30p). Ages 8-12. Shuttle will be provided from Wytheville each day from 7-7:30a. Activities include bus trips to different outdoor facilities for interesting nature games and education (We will visit Beagle Ridge Herb Farm and Environmental Education Center, Crystal Springs Recreation Area, and New River Trail State Park). Two snacks per day will be provided. Activities will include hiking, scavenger hunts, nature crafts, identify creatures, outdoor educational games, etc.
New River Trail Challenge and Family Fest (Sept. 15, 7:30am-race starts, 9a-festivities begin). Race is a 40-mile-bike ride followed by 12 mile kayak and half marathon (13.1 mile) to finish. Teams may be female, male, mixed, senior male or senior female. Mixed teams may be any combination of genders, and senior team members must be 50 years old on race day. Rewards - Collegiate Challenge, Sponsor Challenge, Local Heroes Challenge, etc. Individual competitors must bring their own support crew for transportation to and from Allisonia transition. A gear-only shuttle will be available to return kayaks from Allisonia to the Foster Falls access area. Registration - individuals - $50 through Aug. 17 and $70 from Aug. 17-Sept. 7. For teams, its $100 through Aug. 17, and $140 from Aug. 18-Sept. 7. T-shirt included in registration. For college students, $25 discount for individuals and $45 for teams (half of team must be in school presently). Directions to Race Headquarters - From I-77, take exit 24 go east on Rte. 69 to Rte. 52 (Ft. Chiswell Rd.), go north to Rte. 608 (Foster Falls Rd.), go east and follow the brown park signs into the Foster Falls Access.
