The Wythe County Water & Wastewater Department is accepting applications for a part-time secretary position (up to 28 hours per week). 

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to acting as a receptionist, assisting with completion of applications, data entry, preparing & maintaining office files & accounts, collection of payments, cashiering, daily deposits, operating a variety of office & computer equipment.

Rural Retreat Lake Job Opportunities PDF Print E-mail

The Wythe County Parks and Recreation is now accepting employment applications for Campground Manager and Pool Manager at Rural Retreat Lake. These are seasonal employee positions that will work May through September up to 40 hours per week but not exceeding 1500 hours during this seasonal period. 

Campground Manager will be responsible for supervising and scheduling employees, camp reservations, manage the camp store, daily store and campground maintenance, and other duties deemed necessary. 

The Pool manager will be responsible for supervising and scheduling lifeguards, pool party scheduling, daily maintenance of the pool, pool water chemistry, building facility, and other duties deemed necessary. Lifeguard certification highly suggested. Experience with pool maintenance is also recommended. 

All Candidates must possess a positive friendly demeanor, work well with the public, and be willing to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed. Employees should be able to lift 50 lbs or less without assistance and must have reliable transportation to and from job site. 

Lifeguard and Campground Clerk/Maintenance positions are also available. These are part-time seasonal positions with up to 28 hours per week. 

All Lifeguards must be Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid Certified and be able to provide proof of certification before employment. 

Campground Clerks/Maintenance are responsible for managing the camp store, daily maintenance of the store/campground, camp sites and other duties deemed necessary.

Accounting Technician PDF Print E-mail

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors is seeking applications for an Accounting Technician for the Wythe County Finance Department.

The successful candidate should have three to five years of accounting or payroll experience and/or an Associate Degree in related field with two years experience. This position is responsible for day to day fund accounting duties to include accounts payable / receivable, payroll, journal entries, budgeting, audit preparation and general ledger analysis. Excellent communications and spreadsheet skills are required.

One full-time Law Enforcement position 

Salary $31,009.00 plus benefits 

Duties shall consist of, but are not limited to, general police responsibilities necessary to the safety and good order of the community.  Will also be responsible for identifying criminal offenders and criminal activity. Also when and where appropriate, apprehend offenders and participate in subsequent court proceedings.  Will be responsible for reducing the opportunities for the commission of crime through preventative patrol and other measures, facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic and provide other emergency services as needed. 

  • A current certification in Law Enforcement from the Department of Criminal Justice Services preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully perform department physical assessment.
  • Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation and drug screening.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have valid Virginia Operators License.

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors’ is accepting job applications for a full-time custodial position for the Building and Grounds Department.

Under the direct supervision of the Head Custodian, the Custodian is responsible for the efficient and economical cleaning and maintenance of the County buildings and personally performs routine maintenance work as needed. They are responsible for reporting any equipment failures or building defects via written work requests to the Head Custodian. Custodians are charged with the inventory and reporting of cleaning supplies and toiletries to the Head Custodian. Other responsibilities include cleaning of the buildings and grounds and the removal of trash on a daily basis both inside and outside of the buildings. Cleaning activities that need to be done on a daily basis, but not limited to once a day, include the complete cleaning of bath rooms, kitchen areas, hallways, common areas, and offices. Cleaning of these areas should produce a clean visual and sanitary inspection. As occasioned cleaning should include the following activities, but not be limited to: mopping, waxing, and buffing floors, dusting, washing windows and walls, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, and weeding flower beds. Custodians should also perform any additional duties designated by the Head Custodian, Department Head, or County Administrator.

In addition to the paid wages this position includes health insurance, annual and sick leave benefits, and paid holidays. A full list of benefits can be obtained from the Human Resources department. Current work hours are normally from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
