WYTHEVILLE, Va. – The Wytheville Women’s Club has been engaging the community by challenging them to buy lunches for essential workers at local businesses.

Wytheville Women’s Club President Amy DeWilde said the idea to conduct a lunch challenge in our area was sparked by women’s club members. This concept started with an idea to do “good” for others in our community.

The Wytheville Woman’s Club issued the Lunch Challenge on social media, asking any persons, groups, organizations, or businesses to supply lunch for any business in the community.

“We felt like it would be good to buy the essential workers lunch, it would also help promote the smaller businesses,” DeWilde said. “There are clubs and churches around that always like to help.”

The first lunch donation went to Jason’s Auto Service in Max Meadows and Counts Drug Store in downtown Wytheville.

“This challenge helps the Women’s Club support the community,” DeWilde said. “It’s also nice to help others by purchasing them food. With all the negative in the world, it would be nice to show what our community is all about.”

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors appreciates the efforts of groups like the Wytheville Woman’s Club and their willingness to encourage good deeds in our community.

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors encourages residents to stay safe by following social distancing guidelines set forth by health professionals and following the Governor’s official orders. The board also encourages residents to support local businesses during this time and to support not only those individuals who are working at essential businesses but also find ways to support those employees of businesses that had to close due to the executive orders.
