WYTHEVILLE, Va.

Earlier this week a dog was picked up from the Murphysville Road area and taken to a local veterinarian’s office by Wythe County Animal Control personnel following a call from a resident who was not the owner of the dog. The dog was in poor health conditions with severely damaged front legs, including portions of the front paws missing. The dog remained in veterinarian care throughout the week. Unfortunately, the dog was in such poor shape that the animal control officer in consultation with veterinarians determined that the most humane action was to euthanize the dog.

An investigation into the incident is underway. During the week, Wythe County Animal Control personnel was in contact with a rescue agency with interest in transporting the dog out of state for continued medical care. Ultimately, this was unable to happen due to the condition of the dog.

Anyone with any information about the owner of the dog is encouraged to call the Wythe County Dog Shelter at 276-228-6003.
