The tragedy of September 11, 2001 has re-awakened our appreciation and concern for one another. Clearly, we have much to be thankful for. The integrity and commitment of our officers to both our Sheriff’s Office and the community is commendable. Our goal is to provide as near perfect protection and service as possible. Whether we are responding to the needs of our citizens or providing safety programs that will benefit everyone, our desire is to continue making tremendous strides in keeping our community safe.
Wythe County is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia covering 460 square miles. The county’s population is approximately 30,000 and although most of our county is rural and some slow paced, interstates 77 and 81 intersect here, bringing numerous travelers to and through our county on a daily basis.
The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Doug King, consists of twenty-seven (27) sworn law enforcement officers. This figure includes, patrol, court and civil personnel. Only twelve are designated as patrol officers. The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office also has the following grant provided positions: 5 school resource officers, 2 victim assistance officers, and 5 part time court and civil personnel.
In May 2000, the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office relocated to accommodate the growing needs of the office and the community. With this move, not only was efficient workspace provided; modernized upgrades to computers & equipment were performed to provide the best services to the citizens of Wythe County.
